My role
Lotus Maui is a Hawaii-based event coordination and catering company specializing in upscale wedding and private event planning. Founded by renowned chef and restaurateur, Carol Longhi, Lotus uses only the finest ingredients and materials – locally sourced, where available – to create their epicurean masterpieces.
For the brand, Lotus wanted something fresh and instantly recognizable that appealed to a wide range of clientele. A warm color scheme was selected to enhance the appeal of food photography, with gold, white, and grayscale as the primary colors, with a dark navy blue accent that adds a sophisticated feel.
After many iterations, the final logo cuts a traditional insignia figure with modern typography. Overly coastal and on-the-nose Maui symbology was avoided to allow Lotus to span a wider clientele base. As most marketing for Maui-based weddings targets the mainland, we wanted a look and feel that extends past the stereotypical imagery associated with Hawaii.
As with the brand, I avoided an overtly coastal feel for the website, as well. We wanted something different than your typical cookie cutter Hawaiian-centric event website, and opted to focus the visuals on appetizing food selections.
As competition is steep in Maui, SEO and search engine visibility were primary factors for the website’s content architecture and copy. Content was created based on researched keywords and phrases meant to boost ranking, and formulated to maximize organic exposure.
I designed Lotus’ business cards with the brand palette of gold, white, and dark gray. The standard cards are double-sided with a golden lotus floral motif on the back side, and pertinent contact info on the front side. Business cards were standard printed on recycled linen cardstock.
Simple Moodboards
I started this project with some simple moodboards, which aided in landing on a vivid, nature-inspired color palette that incorporated the the mellow vibe of Maui.
